What this video teaches
The most thorough varial flip breakdown available, covering six fundamental phases: setup, loading, launching, tail strike, footwork, and landing confirmation. Teaches two distinct foot positions (tight beginner and wide controlled) with detailed mechanics for each.
Key tips
1Front foot sits at the center-line mark between the trucks, turned forward with heel hanging slightly off; back foot in the toe side pocket of the tail with toes on the board
2Wind up by reaching your back shoulder slightly forward as you squat down so you can give rotational power to the board on the way up
3Strike the toe side of the tail on the ground, not the center or heel side, so the board rebounds into the varial rotation
4Front foot finds the heel side rail and pushes straight through it, not off the nose sideways like a kickflip
5Keep the board on your center line: the tail should float on your heel side and the nose on your toe side as it rotates
6Avoid spinning frontside in the air as it pulls your front foot away from the board and makes landing almost impossible
7Aim your front foot directly on top of the front truck bolts for a stable landing; back foot can sit anywhere on the board
8To confirm the landing, push your front foot slightly forward and your back foot slightly back to help finish the rotation cleanly
