What the tutorials teach
The three tutorials cover two related versions under the same name, so it is worth knowing which one you are learning. RIDE Channel treats the acid drop as rolling straight off a ledge and dropping without an ollie, and the bomb drop as jumping into a ramp while holding the board. GOSKATE and Howcast both teach the hand-held version and agree on the mechanics: hold the board in the hand that sits in front of you (left for regular, right for goofy), swing it out and back like a pendulum, and jump with both feet as it returns so you meet it before it hits the ground. Howcast adds the step before that, kicking the board up off the tail into your hand, and points out that a lower toss means a smaller jump while a high toss forces you to tuck your knees. Balance advice is consistent across all three: stay centered over the board, or fractionally forward, and never lean back on the landing. Every coach names commitment as the deciding factor, since bailing partway through a drop is what causes injuries. For your first attempts, drop into grass or gravel and off small obstacles like a curb before working up in height.
- Hold the board in the hand that is in front of you: left hand if you ride regular, right hand if you ride goofy
- Swing the board out and back like a pendulum and jump with both feet the moment it starts coming back toward you
- Land centered over the board or slightly forward, never leaning back, and spot your landing before you leave
- Keep the toss low so you only have to jump a little; a high toss means tucking your knees up to reach the board
- Practice into grass or gravel and start off a curb, then a ledge, before going bigger
- Commit fully once you go, since changing your mind mid-air is the main cause of bad falls on drops
