Bluntslide

The tail of the board locks onto the top of a ledge while the deck points away at roughly 45–90°. You slide along on the tail plate.

The Bluntslide is an advanced Slides trick. Most skaters land their first one within 3-8 months of consistent practice.

    Approach backside, parallel

    Approach parallel to the obstacle from the frontside. You'll swing the nose away as you lock in.

    Ollie and swing the nose

    Ollie and rotate slightly so the tail lands on the ledge and the nose swings away toward your heels.

    Land the tail plate onto the top of the ledge.

Common mistakes

Sliding out immediately

What
The tail touches down but slides off the ledge instantly.
Why
Not enough back-weight lock-in.
Fix
Commit more weight to the tail on lock-in. A slight approach angle helps the tail catch.

Tail hits face of ledge instead of top

What
The tail doesn't get on top of the ledge.
Why
Insufficient ollie height.
Fix
Approach with more speed and focus on getting the tail over the top edge, not into the side.

The mechanics behind the trick

Board
The tail plate acts as the slide surface. The board is angled with the nose pointing away from the obstacle, supported only by the tail's contact.
Feet
Your back foot sits over the tail (the slide point). Your front foot's pressure determines the angle.
Weight
Weight over the tail, with the body leaning slightly into the ledge to maintain the lock-in.
