Steps

  1. 1

    Grab the board

Reach down and grab the heel edge of the board between your feet.

    Force
    ●●○○○
    Direction
    down
    Weight
    centered
TipBend at the knees, not just the waist — you need your legs loaded for the plant.
  2. 2

    Plant your front foot

Step your front foot off the board and onto the ground while holding the board with your hand.

    Force
    ●●○○○
    Direction
    down
    Weight
    front
TipKeep the board level in your hand — it should stay at about knee height.
  3. 3

    Jump off the plant

Use your planted foot to push off the ground and jump upward, bringing the board with you.

    Force
    ●●●●
    Direction
    up
    Weight
    front
TipThe planted foot is a spring — load it and release.
  4. 4

    Land on the board

Place your front foot back on the board, release your hand, and land.

    Force
    ●●●○○
    Direction
    down
    Weight
    centered
TipRelease the grab just before you land so both hands are free for balance.

Common mistakes

Front foot can't reach ground

What
You can't get your foot down without falling over.
Why
Riding too fast or not bending your knees enough.
Fix
Slow down and practice the motion stationary first.

Board flailing

What
The board swings around wildly when you plant.
Why
Grip is too loose or the grab is too close to one end.
Fix
Grab firmly in the middle of the board.

Why this works

The mechanics behind the trick

Board
Your hand holds the board steady while your feet do the work. The board becomes an extension of your hand during the plant phase.
Feet
Front foot plants on the ground as the pivot point. Back foot stays on the board throughout.
Weight
All weight transfers to the planted foot, then explosively back to both feet as you land.

Frequently asked

How long does it take to learn a Boneless?
Most skaters land their first boneless within 1-2 weeks of consistent practice, once you can caveman consistently.
What should I learn before the Boneless?
The boneless builds on Caveman. Get that consistent first, since the boneless reuses the same pop, balance, or flick.
Is the Boneless hard to learn?
The boneless is a beginner trick. It gets much easier once you can already caveman.
