Your progress

Fakie stance

Rotates easier — the pivot is front-centered, so it comes around faster.

  • Flips and shuvs spin around quicker than regular — ease off the scoop and flick.
  • You're rolling backward, so commit to staying centered as the board comes back under you.

Variant of Kickflip

Steps

  1. 1

    Roll fakie with confidence

Be comfortable rolling fakie before adding the flip.

    Force
    ○○○○
    Direction
    back
    Weight
    centered
TipRoll fakie for several feet, relaxed, before attempting.
  2. 2

    Fakie foot placement

Set up for a kickflip from the reversed orientation. Your 'popping foot' is your normally-front foot.

    Force
    ○○○○
    Direction
    back
    Weight
    centered
TipMentally map out which foot pops and which flips before you attempt.
  3. 3

    Pop and flick fakie

Pop the board and flick the flip with your opposite foot from normal.

    Force
    ●●●●
    Direction
    up
    Weight
    centered
TipThe flick motion is the same — it just comes from the other side.
  4. 4

    Catch and land fakie

Spot the flip and stomp the board. Land riding fakie.

    Force
    ●●●○○
    Direction
    down
    Weight
    centered
TipYou land fakie — same direction you were already traveling.

Common mistakes

Flipping the wrong direction

What
You accidentally perform a heelflip instead of kickflip.
Why
Orientation confusion in fakie.
Fix
Slow down. Visualize which side the flip goes before attempting.

Why this works

The mechanics behind the trick

Board
In fakie, your back foot performs the pop and the flip mechanics are the same as regular but driven by the mirrored foot.
Feet
The flicking foot in fakie is your dominant foot — many skaters find this easier than regular.
Weight
Same as regular kickflip but centered on the fakie axis.
