What the tutorials teach
Only one of these tutorials has a transcript available, and it is a broad ten grab lesson rather than a method specific one, so treat the coaching here as grab fundamentals that carry into the method rather than a full method breakdown. The method is a heel side grab with the front hand while the legs extend, which puts it in the same family as the melon and lien grabs that Skatepark Lessons does cover in detail. The single strongest shared cue is that the grab comes to you: pull your knees up into your chest and let the board travel into your hand instead of reaching down for it. For the heel side grab, pushing both feet out in front of the body like a karate kick is what brings the board within reach of the front hand and produces the extended, boned shape a method is known for. Air height matters more than grab technique early on, since the pop has to buy enough hang time to reach, tweak and release. Practicing the motion lying on your back with the board on your feet, and learning it off a small quarter pipe flyout into a bank, are the two low risk drills offered. Bailing is taught as a skill in its own right: keep momentum forward and use the grab hand to pull the board away from your feet.
- Do not reach for the grab; pull your knees into your chest and let the board come up into your hand
- For a heel side grab like the method, push both feet out in front of you so the board rises into reach of the front hand
- Grab heel side under your knees with the front hand, then extend the legs to get the boned, tweaked shape
- Learn it off a small quarter pipe flyout into a bank so the landings are soft, and dial in your speed before going higher
- Practice the grab motion lying on your back with the board on your feet to learn where the arms, knees and feet go
- Pop high enough to have time to grab, tweak and let go, and practice bailing by pulling the board clear with your grab hand
