What the tutorials teach

All three tutorials agree the pressure flip is entirely a back-foot trick: the front foot just gets out of the way, and the back foot does all the popping and flipping via a downward, inward scoop rather than a tail snap. VLSkate and SKATE HACKS both emphasize learning the motion standing still with just the back foot before attempting a rolling trick. Braille uniquely recommends tightening trucks to make the flip more responsive. The heel-flip-direction rotation combined with a shove it component is described consistently across all three, though VLSkate gives the most precise foot placement (toe-side pocket near the back wheel, toes off the edge, foot angled toward nose).

  • Back foot sits in the toe-side pocket near the back wheel, toes slightly off the edge, angled toward the nose; do not place it on the tail
  • Press the big toe down and inward into the board rather than snapping the tail; weight shifts forward over that foot as you initiate
  • Practice with only the back foot on the board, front foot off, until the flip motion feels consistent before jumping
  • Tighten trucks slightly when learning; loose trucks absorb pressure and prevent a clean flip rotation

Frequently asked

What should I learn before the Pressure Flip?
The pressure flip builds on Pop Shove-it. Get that consistent first, since the pressure flip reuses the same pop, balance, or flick.
Is the Pressure Flip hard to learn?
The pressure flip is an intermediate trick. It gets much easier once you can already pop shove-it.
