A concise coaching tutorial focused on back-foot edge placement and the pop-before-scoop sequence, teaching skaters to stand on the very back corner of the tail and to snap a full pop first before initiating the scoop.
Key tips
Back foot rides the back edge of the tail with no shoe on the griptape surface, all weight balanced on that corner edge
Front foot sits closer to the center of the board and angled slightly more diagonal than a regular kickflip stance
Load as much weight as possible onto the back foot so the release of pressure produces a hard pop
Pop down hard first, then scoop: scooping too early prevents the board from popping fully and the flip may not complete
Face diagonally and lean over the toe side of the board before you pop, not square or leaning heelside
Front foot gives only a light kickflip flick and gets out of the way; the back foot does the real work
Catch the board with your front foot once the spin completes to stop rotation and control the landing
Scooping too soon without a committed pop is the most common reason the board under-rotates
