What this video teaches
Jonny Giger's original varial kickflip tutorial with a focus on back foot placement options (pocket vs. center of tail), flicking straight or even slightly inward compared to a kickflip, and recovering varial flips after learning tre flips.
Key tips
1Front foot in kickflip position just behind the bolts, angled forward; can also be placed further back toward the back truck bolts
2Back foot in the shove-it pocket or center of the tail: pocket gives more spin power for beginners, center works better once you have tre flips
3The front foot flicks straight forward or even slightly inward, not outward sideways as it does on a regular kickflip
4Keep shoulders parallel to the board and do not twist them: twisting is one of the most common causes of missed landings
5Apply pressure through your back foot slightly before popping (counter movement) to make the board feel lighter and easier to flip
6If you have tre flips, your back foot wants to over-scoop; consciously reduce the scoop back to pop shove-it level
7If the board keeps landing in front of you, lean your body weight over the board and jump slightly in the direction of your lean
8Practice catching with the front foot only first, then add full commitment once the motion feels stable
