How To: 360 Shove It
VLSkate7:29
How To: 360 Shove It by VLSkate is a skateboarding tutorial for the Frontside 360 Shove-it. VLSkate frames the 360 shove it as nearly all back-foot scoop work, with the front foot doing almost nothing but staying clear.
What this video teaches
VLSkate frames the 360 shove it as nearly all back-foot scoop work, with the front foot doing almost nothing but staying clear. Distinctive angle: identifies the front foot accidentally flicking or clipping the board, discovered only by reviewing slow-motion footage, as the real cause of most flip-overs, more than the back foot's scoop.
Key tips
- Angle your front foot so your toes point almost straight toward the nose, positioned near center, it does very little besides clearing out of the way
- Hang your back toes off the toe-side pocket of the tail, that hang is what gives you the leverage for the scoop
- Scoop by lifting from underneath the tail with your toes and pulling backward while adding a small downward pop, rather than pressing straight down
- Use an arcing motion with your back foot, pull back and then curve toward the nose rather than a straight backward pull, to get the extra rotation
- Keep your front foot completely still and clear once it's off the ground, don't try to steer, flick, or bring it toward the board at all
- Review your attempts in slow motion if the board keeps flipping, a toe flick you don't consciously feel is often the real culprit
- Practice the scoop stationary first, keeping your back foot hovering just above the board after it spins so it doesn't fly away
- Progress to landing only with your front foot while rolling before committing both feet
